Born in 1949, Somyot Hananuntasuk graduated from the Silpakorn University of Fine Arts in Bangkok, and later joined the Kunstakademie in Munich on an exchange scholarship. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture at the Koenigliche Kunstakademie in Copenhagen, which led to a series of international exhibitions early in his career.

Hananuntasuk is one of the masters of abstract art in Thailand. He was strongly influenced by the art generations of the sixties, especially the Color Field Painting movement born in North America, and closely related to Minimalism.
Like a photographer captures a singular event, each of Hananuntasuk’s paintings captures a moment of inner reflexion.

“Each time I work, it’s like a new journey where the destination is unknown. My feelings and experiences are my guides. They help me in making decisions to choose the right path and take each step, one after the other. If the journey is interrupted, I simply make a new path and a new plan. I adjust both everything and nothing until I reach the final destination. In the end, what people see of my painting is the journey itself. Somyot Hananuntasuk – 2017.

He currently lives and works between Munich and Bangkok.
