Born in 199 in Nakhon Pathom in Thailand, Nuttan Kongmalikunkaew is a contemporary artist whose work explores the profound intersection between the external environment and the inner psyche. A Master of Fine Arts graduate from Silpakorn University, Nuttan has quickly emerged as a significant voice among the younger generation of artists, recognized for his ability to revitalize the traditional landscape genre through a poetic and contemplative lens.
Nuttan’s artistic journey is marked by a compelling transformation in visual language. His earlier works (2020–2021) often centered on the human figure within themes of confinement and personal suffering. However, his practice has since evolved into what can be described as “Eco-Surrealism.” In his current works, nature is no longer a mere backdrop but a primary protagonist—a psychological mirror that reflects memory, identity, and the enigmatic forces of existence.
His paintings are characterized by delicate brushstrokes and intricate textures of foliage, wind, and light. By positioning his work on the threshold between the “Sublime”—beauty intertwined with awe and fear—and the uncanny logic of Surrealism, Nuttan creates atmospheric landscapes that invite viewers into a meditative state. His compositions often provoke a sense of mystery and ambiguity, challenging the observer to question their relationship with the unknown and the intangible.
Nuttan has held notable solo exhibitions, including Imagination Reverie (2024) and ÉCHO du SILENCE: The Resonance of Silence (2025) at Joyman Gallery. His talent has been widely recognized in the Thai art scene, earning him several prestigious accolades, most notably the Gold Medal at the White Canvas Thailand 2023, following his Silver and Bronze wins in previous years. He continues to live and work in Thailand, pushing the boundaries of contemporary landscape painting.
